Presider Bishop Robert Horwath

The Missionary Archdiocese of North America is a vital apostolic pillar of The Ecumenical Protestant Methodist Episcopal Church. Its purpose is to oversee the spiritual health and ecclesiastical order of our communities. Under the guidance of the Ordinary, the Missionary Archdiocese fosters prayer and sound teaching. We empower local Parishes to share the grace of Jesus Christ.

Morning Prayer

6:00 a.m. Alaska Time

Begin the Lord’s Day with Scripture, psalms, confession, prayer, and praise. Morning Prayer follows the ancient Prayer Book pattern of starting the day in the presence of God, lifting the heart to Christ, and preparing the soul for faithful worship.

Holy Communion

7:00 a.m. Alaska Time

Gather with us for the Lord’s Supper, the chief service of Christian worship. We hear the Word of God, confess the Christian faith, pray for the Church and the world, and receive Holy Communion in remembrance of Christ’s death, resurrection, and promised coming again.

How to Prepare and Receive Holy Communion at Home

Those joining Holy Communion online should prepare reverently before the service begins. Set aside a small, clean table if possible. You may place a Bible, a candle, and the bread and cup on the table. If you light a candle, do so safely. Quiet your heart, pray, and prepare to receive with faith, repentance, thanksgiving, and love.

What to Prepare

Prepare the elements with care. For the bread, use a small piece of clean, plain bread or a common wafer. For the cup, use pure grape juice or wine. Please ensure the elements are and appear dignified; do not use common snack foods, water, or other liquids that are not consistent with the historical practice of the Church. The intention is to set apart these elements from common use for a holy purpose.

Do Not Receive Before the Minister Directs You

It is crucial that you do not consume the bread and cup until the Minister has completed the Prayer of Consecration and the Institution Narrative. In the 1662 Book of Common Prayer, the Institution Narrative is the central moment where we recall Christ’s words at the Last Supper, setting the bread and wine apart for this holy sacrament. The Priest acts in the person of Christ and as the representative of the Church; wait for the proper invitation in the liturgy to receive the holy elements together in spirit with the whole community.

How to Receive at Home

When the Minister invites you, receive the bread and then the cup with reverence. You may pray quietly: 'Lord Jesus, come and dwell in my heart. Grant that I may be a partaker of your divine life and find my nourishment in you, now and forever. Amen.' Receive with the assurance that by faith, the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ are given to you for the preservation of your soul and body unto everlasting life.

After Communion

Treat any remaining elements with the utmost respect. They should not be treated as common food or discarded carelessly. If elements remain, consuming them reverently or taking them to the sick, homebound, imprisoned, or elderly is encouraged as a sign of the community’s shared life and Christ’s extended presence. Do not simply throw away what has been set apart for the Lord's service.

Holy Communion is received in remembrance of Christ’s death, resurrection, and promised coming again. Come to the Lord’s Table humbly, faithfully, and thankfully.

“Do this in remembrance of me.”
